History of National Rocky Road Day
In 1853, the Rocky Road dessert was first created with an interesting story. Some dishonest businessmen took confectionery items which have got spoilt during their distant journey from Europe and mixed them with nuts and milk chocolates. The name Rocky Road was coined relating the rocky road by which travelers explored the gold fields.
However, in 1929, the Rocky Road ice cream was invented by William Dreyer(the founder of Dreyer Ice Cream) in Oakland. His ice cream had the same ingredients of an original dessert and dedicated it for those affected by the Wall Street crash in 1929. He used his wife’s sewing scissors to cut the almond nuts and marshmallows. Then added them to the ice cream and a new classic American ice cream flavor was born!
