National Help a Horse Day is celebrated on April 26 of every year. Horses are considered both pet animals and also very hard-working farm animals. Various sanctuaries and equine rescues around the country hold various events celebrating the horses. The events are organized to increase awareness about horse protection and to support neglected and mistreated horses across the country.

Horses and children, I often think, have a lot of the good sense there is in the world.” – Josephine Demott Robinson.

History of National Help A Horse Day

National Help a Horse Day was founded by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in the year 2013 to raise awareness and encourage the intervention of neglected, abused, and deserted horses across the country. The day was also created to provide a national day of acknowledgment for equine organizations and to spread about the work they do to save horses that are at-risk and also to show their community members how they can join with them to make a huge difference in the equine community. Various events are organized not only on the 26th of April but throughout April by Equine organizations.  In the year 2014, a contest was also added to the celebration, through that contest, qualified equine groups can get a chance to win money for holding a Help a Horse Day event.
