National Mulled Wine Day is observed on March 3 of every year. Mulled wine is a beverage usually made with red wine along with various spices, citric fruits, sugar, and sometimes raisins. It is served hot or warm. It is mostly alcoholic, although there are non-alcoholic versions of mulled wine. Mulled Wine is a traditional drink during winter, especially around Christmas, and is often seen in Christmas night markets. It is so popular and traditional in the United Kingdom. Mulled cider is served for alcoholics and mulled apple juice as a non-alcoholic alternative. Celebrate this day by happily drinking any version of mulled wine.

Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy.” – Benjamin Franklin

History of National Mulled Wine Day

The origin of the National Mulled Wine Day is not found. However, Wine was first recorded as spiced and heated in Rome during the 2nd century. The Romans moved across Europe, conquering much of it and trading with the rest of Europe. The troop brought wine and vine-culture with them up to the Rhine and Danube rivers and the Scottish border with their recipes. It is also assumed that the mulled wine recipe was first found in the 1390’s medieval English cookery book called The Forme of Curry. Many parts of Europe have their version of mulled wine.
