Magna Carta Day is observed every year on the 15th of June. The day is celebrated to honor the most important document in political history named “Magna Carta”. Magna Carta is from Latin meaning the Great Charter. The Magna Carta explains the rights of the common people and it limits the power of the monarchy. The Magna Carta was first drafted and created to make peace between the unpopular King and a group of rebellions which in turn turned out to be the most important document in political history.

History of Magna Carta Day

The Magna Carta (Great Charter) was first agreed upon and signed by King John of England at Runnymede on 15 June 1215. The Magna Carter Day is celebrated every year on this date. Magna Carta promised to protect the church rights, and protection the barons from illegal imprisonment. After the death of King John, his son Henry III reissued the document in the year 1216. In the second edition, some of the radial contents were removed from the charter.

The Magna Carta is used to advance the cause of liberties, constitutionalism, and parliamentarians. The four original 1215 Magna Carta were displayed together at the British Library on 3rd February 2015. The 3rd of February 2015 is the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta and hence on this day, the Magna Carta was displayed.
