World Whale Day
World Whale Day is celebrated on 17th February of every year. World Whale Day is dedicated to honor and raise awareness to protect humpback whales and their ocean habitat. The humpback whales are larger species which ranges in length from 12–16 m and weigh about 36,000 kg. These humpbacks can be identified by distinctive body shape, with long pectoral fins and a knobbly head. Males produce a complex song lasting for about 10 to 20 minutes, which they repeat for hours at a time, maybe to convey the notion to mate. Humpback whales typically migrate up to 25,000 km each year. Humpback was once hunted to the point of extinction; now the population has recovered slowly. Humpback is usually hunted; collide with ships and die from noise pollution.

History of World Whale Day
World Whale Day was founded in Maui, Hawaii, in 1980, to honor humpback whales, which swim off its coast while migrating in winter. It’s the leading showcase of the Maui Whale Festival. Founder of this day is not found. World Whale Day observations are presented by Pacific Whale Foundation, every year which will feature a parade, live music, and other festivities. It is celebrated to remind people that whales need our support to face challenges like pollution and habitat loss.

Every year, crowds flock to the Maui island to join in the free all-day event, organized by the Pacific Whale Foundation.
