Serendipity Day is celebrated to encourage people to face those unexpected good things.
The willingness to live your life as though everything is a miracle….with the belief at any moment, something wonderful is about to happen.” – Madeleine Kay
History of Serendipity Day
Serendipity Day was celebrated for the first time in the year 2010. Serendipity, in general, represents an ability to make desirable discoveries by accident. The history of the word Serendipity dates back to the mid-1700s. It was first coined by English author Horace Walpole in the year 1754. The author explained the root cause of the word to his friend in a letter. He mentioned that the word he found was taken from a Persian fairy tale called The Three Princes of Serendip. The narration of the tale is all about the three princes who were expelled from the kingdom of Serendip aka Sri Lanka to prove their worth. Serendipitous moments occurs as soon as they travel the world as they made discoveries by accidents which they hadn’t looked for. Thus, Serendipity referred to a journey and discovering something unexpected. The purpose of Serendipity Day is to provide people with a chance to live serendipitously. It also means one must be open to the endless opportunities that life has to offer and welcome them.
