“Playfulness. We’ve baked Mallomars and Rice Krispies treats, made milkshakes, and even built a macaron cake in the shape of a Christmas tree. These items remind people of their childhood; we just recreate them with adult flavors.” – David Castle
History of National Rice Krispie Treat Day
The Rice Krispie Treat Day was first celebrated in the year 2005. The Rice Krispie was introduced by Kellogg’s Company for the first time in 1928 and was a moderate success. The delicious dessert was first named as Puffed Wheat Squares. A decade later it has become a popular breakfast cereal. It is a dessert made by the combination of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies with a mix of margarine or butter and melted marshmallows or marshmallow creme. At times, the marshmallows can be replaced with the binding agent like the caramel or syrup. Mildred Day was a Campfire Girls troop leader who on seeking for an inexpensive fundraiser idea mixed the cereal with butter, and a hence the Rice Krispie was born. Malitta Jensen and Mildred Day, who was the Kellogg’s employees are credited for their invention with a promotional vehicle for the cereal in 1939.
