National Bow Tie Day is commemorated on August 28 every year. A bow tie is usually more than the regular necktie that is worn by men for formal occasions. They are an essential part of men’s fashion. National Bow Tie Day is celebrated to honor those men who are timelessly honoring the bow tie. You can wear a Bow Tie to celebrate more joyfully.

“When you wear a bow tie, doors open for you. Your posture is a little more erect; your shoulders are a little further back; your style is a little more dynamic. It’s about the reestablishment of the gentleman.” – Dhani Jones

History of National Bow Tie Day

The history and origin of the day were not found. Although, the history of Bow Tie dates back to the 17th century. The Croatian mercenaries wore it during the thirty-year war held during that century. They used a scarf around their neck, which holds the opening of the shirt together. The French military forces had seen the bow ties and started wearing them. Most notably, Pierre Lorillard wore one to the Tuxedo Club and was most famous during the 18th and 19th centuries. However, it is uncertain if the cravat had then evolved into the bow tie and four-in-hand necktie or if the cravat had given rise to the bow tie, and which in turn became the four-in-hand necktie. The traditional bow tie has a strip of cloth, and the wearer needs to tie it by hand. Hence it is also known by different names like self-tie, tie-it-yourself, or freestyle bow tie. A modern-day bow tie is tied by a standard shoelace knot and is called the bow knot. It consists of a ribbon of fabric tied around the collar of a shirt symmetrically such that the two opposite ends form the loops. Earlier, bow ties were only reserved for formal occasions, and much recently, they have become casual ones.
