Create a Great Funeral Day has been commemorated annually on October 30th of every year. It is quite a strange and weird holiday for anyone. The observance of the day is to plan for your funeral. It is a day for all of us to plan our end-of-life event, the funeral.

“The funeral business is so manipulative emotionally. I would want to be thrown into the sea or burned – something that’s not a big hassle.” – Bjork

History of Create a Great Funeral Day

Create a Great Funeral Day has been observed since 1999. Stephanie West Allen founded this interesting day from his real-life incidents. Stephanie West Allen watched her husband who struggled to draw a meaningful funeral for his mother, who earlier had left no directions. On observing his spouse’s grief, Allen felt that knowing what her mother-in-law might have wanted would have made things made easier and holding a funeral so much easier.

Create a Great Funeral Day

She created this day with the expectation to make the members at the home sit together and talk about what they want at their funeral. Thus, making other family members know what the person wanted. It reduces the juggling during their grief to make up things. Allen wrote Creating Your Own Funeral or Memorial Service: A Workbook, based on her experiences. She has registered October 30th as Create a Great Funeral Day as a holiday in 1999.
