International Childrens Book Day is celebrated on April 2 of every year to encourage children to develop their habit of reading. It is also observed to honor Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday, a Danish author and poet who has written more than 130 children’s books, like the famous The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, and so on. A few of the main reasons for the creation of the International Childrens Book Day are to encourage literacy, enhance language skills, thinking skills, and kindle the growth of their imagination.

History of International Childrens Book Day
International Childrens Book Day (ICBD) is founded in 1967. It is observed on or around Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday. This event is funded by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), an international non-profit organization. Members from different countries associated with International Board on Books for Young People sponsor each year for the event. This day is celebrated all around the world to inspire kids to love reading books.

How to celebrate International Childrens Book Day

You can donate some books to the schools and libraries to help the next generation read better and good. One can also gift your favorite childhood book to a little friend in your life.
