History of Chartered Accountants Day

In 1930, the Government of India made plans to maintain a register of accountants and registered the names of accountants in their roster and offered them the title, Registered Accountant. It was in 1948 that the expert committee suggested the formation of the autonomous body enhance regulation. By that time many Indians became members of ICAI in England and Wales under the name of Chartered Accountants. On July 1, 1949, the Chartered Accountant act was passed, ICAI came into existence, and the term Chartered Accountant was used instead of Registered Accountant. Since then, Chartered Accountants Day was celebrated as ICAI Foundation Day or CA Day in India.
