National Bookmobile Day is celebrated across the country on the Wednesday of National Library Week, held in April every year. This year it falls on April 7. A day to recognize the contributions made by the nation’s bookmobiles and the devoted professionals who make the reach of quality books possible to their communities. The bookmobile is a large vehicle designed to be used as the library. It provides mostly the same kind of services as the local library. It was initially started in horse-drawn to spread good literature in rural areas. Modern bookmobiles provide access to books, magazines, videos, journals, CDs, and much more. Bookmobile plays a vital role in delivering library services around the country.
“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.” – Charles William Eliot

How to Celebrate the Day
It can be best observed by either visiting a bookmobile or donating some books to the bookmobile or other organizations helping them. Everyone has the right to be educated, so it’s important that books reach the rural part of the country too. On National Bookmobile Day, you can thank the librarians and staff of the bookmobile who helps literacy reaching the different community. Post pictures and share your thoughts on social media about the day by using the hashtag #BookmobileDay.
