The origin and the creator of the day remain in the dark. However, it is believed that strawberry ice cream was first served in 1813, at the second inauguration of James Madison. During the medieval period, strawberry was considered a food that brings peace & prosperity. Various U.S cities still debate the origination of strawberry sundaes. But this day must have been chosen because July is when strawberries are ripe and harvested and when strawberries are widely used in many recipes. So to beat the heat strawberries are used in ice creams and happen to be a favorite dessert of the month.
