National No Bra Day is an annual observance commemorated on October 13th of each year. Need not shrink your face with the name of this celebration day as it is an awareness event. Several millions of women around the world are suffering from breast cancer. National No Bra Day is celebrated to raise breast cancer awareness among women and to help raise money for research. Go without your bra to promote the cause of breast cancer awareness.

“If you have a friend or family member with breast cancer, try not to look at her with ‘sad eyes.’ Treat her like you always did; just show a little extra love.” – Hoda Kotb

History of National No Bra Day

The history and origin of National No Bra Day are anonymous. It is an awareness event celebrated all over the world to raise awareness about breast cancer and its prevalence. The celebration of the day creates opportunities for fundraising to help keep breast cancer research moving. It is the day for any woman to know the importance of breast screening, identifying the symptoms, and regular self-examinations to battle breast cancer. With all these, No Bra Day encourages women to leave their bras at home to spread awareness. Several women who have survived breast cancer need a bra to hold their prostheses after surgery. They are unable to go out without a bra. The whole of October month marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this Day might have been created as a reminder for all women to be screened for breast cancer.

National No Bra Day

There is a mention that the National No Bra Day has its roots in Bra Day, celebrated on October 18th. It can be traced back to Toronto, Canada, in 2011.  Dr. Mitchell Brown, a plastic surgeon, had decided to create BRA (Breast Reconstruction Awareness) Day to educate the victims about mastectomy surgeries and the option of reconstruction. During 2011, this BRA Day spread from Canada to other parts of the world. No Bra Day is considered the sister holiday spawn from BRA Day. Every one in eight women is found to be suffering from this deadly disease. Those women who have breast cancer and when found at a later stage lead to surgery and breast removal. It is vital for any woman to take care of her breast as it visually identifies her as a woman. It is a vital organ in her body, without which she cannot feed her baby.
