History of National Eat A Peach Day

The origin, history, and the person who marked this day as National Eat A Peach Day is anonymous. But this date is chosen as peaches are harvested between the months of June and August. The history of peaches, however, has its origin. The peach is a deciduous tree native to the region of Northwestern parts of  China. The scientific name of the peach is “Prunus Persica,” meaning ‘Persian Plum.’ Hence, the fruit is regarded as a close relative of the family of plums. It was first domesticated and cultivated in Tarim Basin and on the northern slopes of the Kunlun Shan mountains. The Chinese writings that date back to the 10th century BC mentioned peaches. Peaches often served as a favored fruit of kings and the emperors of that time. The history of the peach cultivations in China has been extensively examined, which indicates many original manuscripts dating back to 1100 BC. People wrongly believed that the fruit has all the way come from Persia with its scientific name, but the scientific names depict the fact that it traveled to Persia from China.

The peach tree has an edible juicy fruit named peach or nectarine with a seed inside. Both the peach and nectarines are found to be the same species. However, they are commercially considered different fruits. The only difference is that peaches on their skin have the fuzz, whereas nectarines are identified by the absence of the trichomes, and fruit skin. The health benefits of peach are listed in numbers as it has high nutritional values and is a low-calorie fruit with vitamins and minerals. Also, it is a good antioxidant content fruit with no saturated fats. The vitamin C of peach helps in maintaining the immune system of the body, whereas the vitamin A in the peach helps in the maintenance of healthy skin and lets you stay away from lung cancer.  There is a rich content of iron and potassium that helps in the formation of red blood cells and controls blood pressure, respectively. It also contains fluoride that helps you prevent dental cavities. By the 19th century, cultivation of the peach began in the Americas, and at present, it is found in infinite varieties ranging from white peaches to nectarines all over the world.
