International Marconi Day (IMD) is celebrated every year on the Saturday closest to 25th April (Marconi’s birthday – 25 April 1874). In 2023, this day is observed on 22nd April. This day celebrates the great part Marconi played in the creation of the radio. International Marconi Day is a 24-hour amateur radio event that is observed annually. Guglielmo Marconi is often referred to as the father of the latest wireless radio communication.

History of International Marconi Day

International Marconi Day (IMD) is organized by the Cornish Radio Amateur Club every year. Guglielmo Marconi is an Anglo-Italian, and he is the creator and electrical engineer who is known for his excellent work on long-distance radio transmission. Marconi was the 1st first person to attain radio transmission and reception over long distances. Initially, over 1.75 miles in the year 1895, and one of his most significant achievements is that he communicated across the Atlantic in the year 1901 between the Lizard, southern Cornwall, and St. Johns,  a city in Newfoundland, Canada. Guglielmo Marconi got the copyright for a system that could transmit and receive telegraphy with Hertzian waves. Marconi is usually honored as the inventor of the radio.
