Lighthouse Day falls on August 7. A lighthouse is a building, tower, or another type of structure designed to emit light from a system of lenses and lamps used as an aid to navigating for maritime pilots on inland waterways or at sea. Lighthouses point the dangerous coastlines, reefs, hazardous shoals, safe entries to harbors and can also assist in aerial navigation. The light shines in the darkness to alert and protect. The day honors the beacon of light that for hundreds of years symbolized safety and security for ships and boats at sea. Lighthouse protects from the fog, reefs, rocks, and other hazards of the coastline. The electricity and the light bulb paved the way for the current lighthouse, the rotating light that is done with the amazing creative positioning of mirror and motor to spin a curved mirror. Legislation to declare August 7 as Lighthouse Day and was introduced by Congress in the spring of 1988 and was signed by the President on November 5.
