In the United States of America, Independence Day has celebrated annually on July 4. Independence Day USA is otherwise called “the Fourth of July” or “July Fourth.” It is a federal holiday that celebrates the adoption of the Independence Declaration, 241 years ago in 1776 on July 4 by the Continental Congress. The day reminds us that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation and they were no longer part of the British empire.

In 1775, citizens in the USA began to fight against the British Empire for their Independence. On July 2, 1776, Congress quietly voted for independence from Great Britain. On July 4, 1776, the final wording for the Independence Declaration was approved, and the Declaration document was published. On July 8, 1776, the Statement of Independence was read in front of the public. Then delegates began to sign the Declaration of Independence on August 2 of 1776. In 1870, Independence Day USA was made an unpaid holiday for federal employees, and it became a paid holiday in 1941. John Adams in a letter to his wife Abigail said how to celebrate Independence Day USA. He described “pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations” throughout the United States of America. Interestingly the term Independence Day was not used until 1791. The signers of the Independence Declaration, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams, both died on July 4, 1826, exactly 50 years after the adoption of the resolution. It is also remarkable to note that Native Americans lived in the country and each tribe had its nation and government before the European settlers.

Independence Day is a federal holiday in USA and families celebrate that day by going to a picnic or barbecue and will take advantage of the day off.
