National Geographic Day is an annual observance celebrated on January 27th of every year. One thing that is most often taken for granted is the Geography or place we live. Geography is the environment consisting of land and inhabitants along the phenomena of the earth. All the issues and problems of geography are analyzed and detailed in National Geographic Magazines. The day celebrates the magazine, which has been worldwide for almost 130 years. As the magazine works with people to inform them about different parts of the world, people living there, their culture, and more, it has its celebration day.

“I’m a big fan of ‘National Geographic’, the magazine and the channel. Anything to do with the natural world. For years, when I was younger, I was convinced I would be a nature photographer, but that didn’t pan out.” – Tom Weston-Jones

History of National Geographic Day

The year from when the day was celebrated is not known precisely. The founder or organization responsible for creating such a Day is also anonymous. However, we can think that Day commemorates the first issue of the National Geographic Magazines that was published in 1888 by the National Geographic Society. Ever since that, the magazines have been published once every month, since then regularly.

The magazine was initially created as a text-oriented publication and soon became extensive pictorial content while gaining popularity. In recent years, the National Geographic Magazine has been outspoken, relating to environmental issues like deforestation, endangered species, and more nature-related information. The Magazine has also been appreciated for its book-like quality and its beautiful photography.

How to Celebrate the Day

The best way to celebrate the day is by glancing at the magazine. Try to collect the old Nat Geo Magazines and look at the advancements the publications have attained. Read the book and find all the ecological changes over the years. Put your efforts into saving precious geography in a much better way and help in reducing environmental issues. Take out your camera and capture some stills of the beautiful earth. You can share them on social media using the hashtag #GeographicDay.
