Fancy Rat and Mouse Day is celebrated on November 12 of every year. The Fancy Rats belongs to the family called “Mus Musculus.” They look different from the laboratory and pet rats. They are larger than the other mice with long tails and long ears. They also look very prettier than the other rats.
“Rats are very intelligent and can be trained like dogs. They are clean like cats – always washing themselves – and are very personable. They know their owners and want to be out with them.” – Karen Robbins
History of Fancy Rat and Mouse Day
The American Fancy Rat and Mouse Association (AFRMA) created the Fancy Rat and Mouse Day. The November 12 was chosen as the day for the Fancy Rat and Mouse Day since American Fancy Rat & Mouse Association (AFRMA) was founded back in 1983. American Fancy Rat and Mouse Association is a California-based non-profit club of rodent enthusiasts that set breed standards, organises shows, and helps to promote both the fancy rat and the fancy mouse as appealing pets. The primary objective of AFRMA organisation is to promote and support the breeding and presentation of fancy rats and mice for the show and pets. Hence Fancy Rat and Mouse Day is a perfect day to popularise the fancy rats as pets and companions.
