Diwali or Deepavali is the most famous festival celebrated every year in India. Diwali is a Hindu festival of lights observed every year in the countries like India, Guyana, Fiji, Malaysia, Myanmar, Mauritius, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and recently Sindh Province in Pakistan. Diwali or Deepavali marks the return of Lord Rama with his wife Sita and brother Laxmana to his kingdom Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. The Celebration of Diwali may last up to five days, and people’s will celebrate the holiday by decorating their homes and workplaces with small clay oil lamps and electric lights. Some peoples will take a special effort to clean their homes and yards before Diwali. Peoples will wear new clothes on that day and will give sweets to friends, family members, and neighbors. In the evening time, they will celebrate the holiday with fireworks. Across India, streets and temples will be decorated with spectacular light displays and colorful garlands

History of Diwali or Deepavali

Diwali or Deepavali is celebrated in the month of Karthika. The term “Deepawali” defines the rows of diyas or clay lamps. Diwali festival celebrates Lord Rama’s return to his kingdom Ayodhya after finishing his 14-year exile. Diwali is also celebrated as “Kali Puja“, and Kali in West Bengal. In southern India, the festival commemorates the conquering of the Asura Naraka, a king of Assam who imprisoned many people. It is believed that Krishna released the prisoners. Many Buddhists in India marks the anniversary of the Emperor Ashoka’s conversion to Buddhism around the time of Diwali. Deepawali or Diwali is a festival of lights signifying the victory of righteousness and the lifting of spiritual darkness.
