“Every cloud has it’s the silver lining, but it is sometimes a little tricky to get it to the mint.” – Don Marquis.
History of National Chocolate Mint Day
National Chocolate Mint Day was declared by the US National Confectioners Association. The chocolate was brought back to the Europeans when they weren’t fond of the dark, bitter bean and it was used mostly for medical purposes. When it was consumed as a hot beverage, Europeans added mint, cinnamon, and other products to make it as more palatable. Over the time sugar was added, and the combination of chocolate and mint became favourable. In mid-1800’s inventions and improvements in the process make it easier for confectioners to manufacture chocolates to a great quantity. Until the turn of the century, the advertisements for mint chocolates have not started. Depending on the ingredients used and the process used, Mint Chocolate’s can give you a very distinctive mint fragrance. The component can be milk chocolate, standard dark chocolate, or white chocolate. Because of this, Mint Chocolate’s has no distinct flavour, and each flavour can be unique.
