History of National Black Forest Cake Day

The National Black Forest Cake Day’s origin is not known. There is no mention of the creator and the year from when this Day has been in the celebration. However, the Black Forest Cake has got a rich history. The Black Forest cake or Black Forest gâteau is the English name for the German-originated dessert named Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte, meaning “Black Forest Cherry Torte.” The cake has originated in the Black Forest region of southern Germany in the year 1915 or so which was according to the Josef Keller tale. But there isn’t any proper or official mention of this cake’s origin. Black Forest gateau is a chocolate sponge cake with several layers. A traditional version of this cake is made of three chocolate cake plates with whipped cream and cherries sandwiched between each layer.

Finally, The top and side portions are also decorated with more whipped cream, maraschino cherries, chocolate shavings. The Black Forest cherry liquor is usually added in German make, and other countries prepare it without any alcohol. The Black Forest Cake has got its name from the particular type of liquor called Schwarzwalder Kirschwasser used in the Black Forest making. The liquor is found on the Black Forest or Schwarzwald mountain range in southwestern Germany and hence the name. The cake will get its flavor only with the distinctive cherry pit flavor and alcoholic content present in the Schwarzwalder Kirschwasser. So on missing this liquor, the dessert cannot be called a Black Forest cake.
