Teacher’s Day is an annual commemoration celebrated on 5th September of every year in India. A teacher is the one who needs to be celebrated after parents because a teacher is the second parent for any child. From the ancient age to this technology era, we have learned and acquired knowledge with the guidelines of the teacher. Will we have attained this high position without the support of the teachers? Will you have understood every necessary information from scratch to the core without your teachers? Who would have stood as a pillar of support when clearing all your doubts? Who identified you are good at sports and music? Unquestionably it is your teachers, and of course, it includes all of them from the primary section to your higher grade to your college professors. Teacher’s Day celebration is indeed a special honor and tribute for any teacher. Every teacher needs to be celebrated irrespective of the subject they handle. Wish them on this day and pay your honor.

“Teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, caliber, and future of an individual. If the people remember me as a good teacher, that will be the biggest honor for me.” – A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

History of Teacher’s Day

The history and origin of Teacher’s Day in India date back to 1962. The observance of the day is a form of tribute to the contributions made by the teachers towards the welfare of society. The celebration of the day is commemorated on the birth date of the second President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was considered to be a staunch believer of education, a renowned educationist, and a well-known diplomat. He was an Indian philosopher, statesman, and above all, he was a teacher himself. His contribution to the education system in India is enormous. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is one of India’s most distinguished twentieth-century scholars.

Teacher's Day

The history behind the teacher’s day is quite interesting. Some of the prominent students of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan had organized a gathering to pay homage to the Great Teacher of repute in 1965. It was during his presidential tenure, and some of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s students as well as friends approached him and requested him to let them celebrate his birthday. Dr. Radhakrishnan in his speech on that gathering had expressed his profound reservation regarding his birth anniversary celebration and had emphasized that his birth anniversary should be celebrated as ‘Teacher’s Day,’ by paying homage to other Great Teachers of the country. He also mentioned that if it is done, then it would be a great privilege for him.

From then on, every September 5th, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s birthday is celebrated as the day for appreciating and honoring the teachers throughout the country. The students can express their genuine appreciation through their wishes on the occasion of teacher’s day to their teachers. Also, on this day the students pay respect and tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan for his incredible work towards philosophies. The teachers and students on this day report to school as usual as it is an observance and not a holiday. The routine activities and classes will be replaced by activities of celebration, thankfulness, appreciation, and remembrance. The day is marked as a very important day in the history of India.

Teacher's Day

The day is not only the birth anniversary of the second President of Indian but is also the day for appreciating and praising the sincere endeavors and contributions of the teachers who are building the basic foundation of India. Teachers Day is yet another day to give encouragement and support to the teachers who are honestly working towards the students. The celebration of the day is important to note as it also showed Dr. Radhakrishnan’s immense love for the teaching profession. Teacher’s Day is a perfect day for anyone to understand the role and responsibilities of being a teacher.
