National Sense of Smell Day is celebrated every year on the last Saturday of April, this year this day is celebrated on April 29. This day is focused on how the sense of smell plays a vital role in our daily life and how it is connected with the other senses especially taste. Using our sense of smell, we can identify our favorite dish even without looking at it, and we can easily find out the scent smell of our favorite person.

The sense of smell can be extraordinarily evocative, bringing back pictures as sharp as photographs of scenes that had left the conscious mind.” – Thalassa Cruso

History of National Sense of Smell Day

It is sponsored every year by the Sense of Smell Institute, an education and research division of The Fragrance Foundation. This day is celebrated annually from the year 1994. Many science centers and Museums across the country will participate in this day by organizing various activities and informational shows about the sense of smell. One interesting fact about the sense of smell is that our sense of smell gets stronger as the day progresses and the sense of smell will be stronger in the evening than in the morning. During the day our site is a compelling sense in recognizing dangers, and at night we will feel the wafting scent of the wind stronger. National Sense of Smell Day is dedicated to this fantastic sense of ours. Vitamin A is essential for our sense of smell and the lack of Vitamin A can cause “loss of a sense of smell or Anosmia”.
