National Doctors Day is an annual observance celebrated on March 30th of every year. When it comes to health issues, the first person who comes to our mind is the Doctors. History of National Doctors Day
The National Doctors Day has been in celebration since the year 1933 in the United States. Eudora Brown Almond of Winder, Georgia., has created this Day in honour of the Doctors’. The reason for choosing this date is as it was on March 30, 1842, the first ether anaesthetic was used for surgery. Crawford W. Long M.D. administered it, and as to marks the anniversary of the first use of the general anaesthesia in surgery, Eudora Brown Almond, who was the wife of Dr Charles B. Almond has come up with this Day. The Day recognizes the contributions of the physicians to the individual lives and communities. It is a worldwide celebration and varies with date depending on the event of commemoration that is used to mark this day. The healthcare organizations are usually involved in celebrating this Day, though it is supposed to be celebrated by the patients and the benefactors of the healthcare industry.
On the first year celebration of this Day in 1933, greeting cards were mailed and flowers placed on the graves of those deceased doctors. The red carnation is usually used as the symbolic flower for the National Doctors Day. The United States House of Representatives had affirmed a resolution commemorating Doctors’ Day on March 30, 1958. The Congress and the Senate had approved the legislation establishing the National Doctors Day in the year 1990. President George Bush signed the resolution, and it has designated that March 30th as the National Doctors Day. The first National Doctors Day has been celebrated in the year 1991.
