International Be Kind To Lawyers Day is celebrated on second Tuesday of every April. This year the day falls on April 14. International Be Kind To Lawyers Day is dedicated to honour and thank the lawyers who were of help in some ways to everyone. Lawyers may have lousy impression among the public, but it is a vital profession for the society and the justice system. The profession has always been subject to jokes and also have been seen as an evil job by general people. The profession revolves around the perception that the public is exploited by charging huge money, and their aim to win the case even by abusing the legal system. But this day is to spread the awareness that many of these are myths and some lawyers practice law with ethics.
“If there were no bad people, there would be no good lawyers.”- Charles Dickens
History of International Be Kind To Lawyers Day
April 10 was officially declared as International Be Kind To Lawyers Day in the year 2017, despite, an unofficial day called National Be Kind To Lawyers Day was celebrated since 2008, founded by Steve Hughes. He was an American communication expert who closely worked with lawyers. He chose this day because the day falls between April Fool’s Day and Tax Day in the United States. Steve had a view that the lawyers must have a day to get some appreciation for their responsible behaviour to handle the legal laws and regulations. The Day was changed to the international aspect due to the support and interest that was received from abroad.
