Respect for Parents Day is celebrated on August 1 of every year. Respect for Parents Day is the perfect day to teach your children about respect. The primary goal of the day is to appreciate all parents in all parts of the world for their selfless dedication to their children and their lifelong sacrifice towards the parent-children relationship.

Our parents deserve our honor and respect for giving us life itself. Beyond this they almost always made countless sacrifices as they cared for and nurtured us through our infancy and childhood, provided us with the necessities of life, and nursed us through physical illnesses and the emotional stresses of growing up.” – Ezra Taft Benson

History of Respect for Parents Day

In 1994, Marilyn Dalrymple from Lancaster, CA created the day to appreciate the Parents in all parts of the world. She said Respect for Parents Day is an effort to “make your families United and Strong by recognizing the management roles parents have, and to re-establish the respect for parents that was evident in the past.” This day was organized as a reminder that parents should deserve and needs respect and for all to recognize the value that parents have in society.

You can celebrate the day by teaching your children how to respect their parents. Take some time and think about yourself whether you are respectful to your parents or not. Then appreciate the love, sacrifice, respect, and affection shown by the two important persons in your life. Spend the entire day with your parents and take pictures with them. Then share those memorable moments in social media by using the hashtag #RespectforParentsDay.
