International Day of Radiology is commemorated on November 8 of every year. The IDOR or Radiology Day is an annual event celebrated to promote the role of medical imaging in modern healthcare. Radiology Day was celebrated with events in many countries, organized by the national professional societies that represent radiologists. Radiology is a technique that uses medical imaging to diagnose and cure the diseases that are seen within the body. Some of imaging techniques like computed tomography (CT), X-ray radiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound are used to diagnose and treat diseases. Interventional radiology is the performance of medical procedures with the guidance of imaging technologies. Hence Radiology Day is a perfect day to raise public awareness of radiology and its benefits.

History of International Day of Radiology

Radiology Day is a successor to the European Day of Radiology, created in 2011. It was first celebrated on February 10, 2011, to honor the anniversary of Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen Death ( the person behind the creation of X-rays or Rontgen Rays). The European Society of Radiology created the European Day of Radiology (ESR), and later they joined hands with the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and American College of Radiology (ACR) to create the Radiology Day. The main theme of International Day of Radiology 2012 is “medical imaging in oncology.” Last year nearly 150 radiology-related professional societies worldwide celebrated the day, and the participating organizations will organize several events to commemorate the day. The Radiology Day or International Day of Radiology aims to raise public awareness of radiology and its benefits.
