National Philanthropy Day or NPD is observed on November 15th of every year. National Philanthropy Day. National Philanthropy Day is created to honor the contributions of philanthropy and the people who are active in the philanthropic community for the enrichment of our world. NPD is also a grassroots movement to celebrate and encourage kindness wherever it occurs. The main aim of NPD is to promote awareness about the importance of philanthropy and to encourage the people who throw themselves into volunteer and charity work to help their fellow human beings.

There are three lessons in philanthropy – one, involve the family, especially the spouse. She can be a remarkable driver of your initiative. Two, you need to build an institution, and you need to scale it up. Choose a leader for philanthropy whom you trust. Three, philanthropy needs patience, tenacity and time.” – Azim Premji

History of National Philanthropy Day

Douglas Freeman originally started the concept of National Philanthropy Day in 1980, and it was first celebrated in the year 1986 after President Reagan Reagan proclaimed November 15 as National Philanthropy Day. Since then, communities around the world have observed this day by hosting various events to honor the activities of volunteers, donors, leaders, foundations, corporations, and others engaged in philanthropy. The NPD provides an excellent opportunity for us to reflect on the meaning of giving and to honor the daily contributions of individuals and organizations around the world. NPD is registered with the Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. Department of Commerce. The official song for the National Philanthropy Day – “Now More Than Ever,” was written by Marvin Hamlisch. The word Philanthropy means the “act of loving humankind“, and it defines the desire to promote the welfare of others, signified especially by the generous contribution of money to the right causes.

How to Celebrate National Philanthropy Day

There are several ways to celebrate NPD. It is a day to observe the charitable activities in the form of financial donations and volunteering support. Go to the nearby charity and donate some money, food, and dress to those children. Gather your friends and collect some money, clothes, and food from people and donate to charity. You can also celebrate the day by spending some time with the aged people in nursing homes who don’t have any relatives. Raise awareness on social media about the importance of Philanthropy by using the hashtag #NationalPhilanthropyDay or #PhilanthropyDay.

Thank you for reading the post. You can celebrate every day with Happydays365.org and Happy National Philanthropy Day 2023.
