International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is observed on November 29 of every year. It is otherwise called Palestinian Day. It is a United Nations organized observance. During this day events are hosted in New York at the United Nations headquarters and United Nations offices in Vienna and Geneva. International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is usually observed on 29th November each year to mark the anniversary of resolution 181. In the year 2003, Palestinian Day was celebrated on 1st December.

This year, the number of demolitions of Palestinian houses and other structures by Israeli forces has doubled, compared to 2015. Gaza remains a humanitarian emergency, with 2 million Palestinians struggling with crumbling infrastructure and a paralyzed economy, and tens of thousands still displaced, awaiting reconstruction of homes destroyed by conflict” – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

History of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

Palestinian Day day is observed on November 29 of every year by General Assembly order contained in resolutions 32/40 B of 2nd December 1977 and 34/65 D of 12th December 1979 and following recommendations accepted under agenda item Question of Palestine. Special events and memorial activities are held by the Division for Palestinian Rights of the UN Secretariat, in discussion with the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. In the year 2012, The General Assembly voted to allow Palestine non-member observer State status at the UN by a vote of 138 in support to nine against with 41 refusals to vote for the 193 member Assembly, Resolution 67/19. The resolution on the observance of Palestinian Day also inspired the Member States to continue to give the extensive support and publicity to the celebration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
