Neighbour Day

Neighbour Day is celebrated on March 25th of this year. It is an annual celebration held on the last Sunday of every March in Australia. Neighbours are the ones who live and grow with us. They indeed occupy a special place in anyone’s life although they are not bond-by-blood. Haven’t you at least once lent sugar and salt from your next door? If not then you have missed one great relationship in your life. Not all of them are blessed to get good neighbours and if you have got such people as your surroundings then feel blessed. Of course, it is vital to be a good neighbour yourself. A few of us would have so far hesitated how to talk or get connected with the neighbours. The worst case scenario is two neighbours not known to each other even after years. So if you are one on the list, then Neighbour Day is the perfect time for you to break down social barriers to start making your conversation. Say a thank you and celebrate these wonderful neighbourhood souls who made timely help and be celebrated.

“Being a good neighbour is about compassion, which is as warm-blooded as justice is cool-headed.” – Julian Baggini

The Day will also appreciate you for being a great neighbour and get compliments from your next door people. The word neighbour normally refers to a family living in a house or apartment that is next door or across the street. Take a chance on this Day to get connected with the new neighbours to feel like a part of their community as a whole from now on. The very principal aim of this Day is to build better relationships with those people, especially the elderly and vulnerable ones who live around us. It is because various studies have shown that both the mental and physical health is affected due to the social exclusion and loneliness. Whereas, the social participation has positively associated with helping prevent loneliness, isolation and depression and thereby improving the well-being of the people, families and communities.
