National Talk Like Shakespeare Day is celebrated on April 23 of every year. The day creates an opportunity to think and talk like Shakespeare. Shakespeare who was born on April 23, 1564, was one of the acknowledged poets, playwrights, and an actor. He was famously known as “Bard of Avon.” He is still remembered for his knack for writing to reach the depths of the human heart. His works became immensely popular again throughout the world during 20th and 21st centuries. His poems are still read, and plays are performed and studied to date. Many of his works are about life, love, death, revenge, grief, jealousy, murder, magic, and mystery. Shakespeare is still celebrated because he had made several significant contributions to English literature through his dramas or plays. Several phrases which we use today belong to Shakespeare. History of National Talk Like Shakespeare Day
National Talk Like Shakespeare Day was first held in 2009 by the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, which is also the day when Shakespeare was born, April 23. It is believed to be inspired by a similar day, i.e., International Talk Like a Pirate Day. In 2016, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel declared this day to honor Shakespeare’s 400th death anniversary.

Shakespeare is believed to speak in a blend of modern Irish, Yorkshire, and West Country English accents.
