International No Diet Day is an annual celebration held on May 6th. Believe it or not, there is a day dedicated for all of us to forget about diet conscience and indulge in eating healthy foods with the utmost freedom. Many of you took the weight loss program as the new year resolution and seriously worked hard to achieve the goal. You would have so far counted every calorie you consumed. But think for a second, and after all, we must love ourselves for who we are by accepting our bodies. Love your body by celebrating body acceptance and give yourself a little one-day break from all those diet menus on your list. Like the Intermittent fasting days, no diet day is also famous among people to skip the diet and enjoy their favorite food. International No Diet Day intends to celebrate the body of all types and every size.

History of International No Diet Day

The International No Diet Day (INDD) has been celebrated since the year 1992.  Mary Evans Young, the director of Diet Breakers, has created such a celebration Day. Young after her personal experience of being bullied at school for being fat has come up with this idea. Then Young introduced the first No Diet Day in May 1992. It was originally intended to be a UK-based celebration called National No Diet Day. But she has declared to make her holiday also an international one and thus came the International No Diet Day. The date, May 6th of this celebration coincidentally falls on Young’s birthday. Since then this Day has been celebrated throughout the world with the light blue ribbon as its symbol. It is an annual celebration of body acceptance, including fat acceptance and body shape diversity.

International No Diet Day

No-Diet Day is also dedicated to raising awareness of the potential dangers of dieting and thereby promoting a healthy lifestyle that focuses on health at any size. It is said that those who complete weight loss programs have lost 10 percent of their body weight approximately a way to regain two-thirds within a year and almost all within five years. In the present day, educators, healthcare workers, and anti-diet advocates consider the Day by challenging ideas about weight and food. The goal of INND includes the following points.

  • Declare a day free from diets and obsessions about body weight.
  • Help end weight discrimination, sizism, and fatphobia.
  • Question the idea of one “right” body shape.
  • Raise awareness of weight discrimination, size bias, and fatphobia.
  • Present the facts about the diet industry, emphasizing the inefficacy of commercial diets.
  • Honor the Victims of eating disorders and weight-loss surgery.

How to Celebrate International No Diet Day

Celebrating the International No Diet Day is quite simple. Feel proud of your body and weight whatsoever it is as self-love is more important than anything. Never worry about your weight loss goals, or the calories you eat for a day, and just focus on a healthy lifestyle. Support and make the victims put an end to their weight discrimination. Eat healthy nutritious foods just to have a better life rather than looking at the body size. Never bullying or hurting people for being a little chubby is the best thing that can be done for this celebration. Make people around you understand that weight or size doesn’t matter when it comes to healthy living. Share your views and thoughts about the No Diet Day on social media using the hashtag #NoDietDay.
