National Eggs Benedict Day is celebrated on April 16 of every year. The day is celebrated to enjoy a hearty breakfast of poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce and Canadian bacon. Eggs Benedict is a breakfast dish, or American food which consists of two halves of an English muffin each of them will be topped with Canadian bacon or sometimes bacon – a poached egg, and the hollandaise sauce. Hence National Eggs Benedict Day is a day to enjoy a hearty breakfast of poached eggs.

On a typical day, I crawl out of bed before 8 A.M., have a protein shake, chuck my gym kit on, and go for a class or personal training session. When I’m back, I’ll have poached eggs with salmon or spinach for breakfast before my stylists arrive to do my hair – which takes ages. I then go wherever I am needed.” – Ella Eyre

History of National Eggs Benedict Day

The creator or the inventor of National Eggs Benedict Day is still unknown. But many people claim that they invented Eggs Benedict. In 1894 there was a story of a Wall Street broker named Lemuel Benedict who went to the Waldorf Hotel to discover a cure for his hangover. At the hotel restaurant, he ordered poached eggs, buttered toast, Hollandaise, and crisp bacon. The restaurant chef Oscar Tschirky loved the dish so much that he added it to the menu and named it after Mr. Benedict. Another story is, that in 1967 a man named Edward P. Montgomery wrote a letter to the New York Times Magazine claiming that he had founded the real founder of Eggs Benedict. His note contains a recipe invented by Commodore E.C. Benedict before his death in 1920. He received that recipe from his mother who was an acquaintance of Commodore. Hence National Eggs Benedict Day is a day to enjoy the hearty breakfast of poached eggs, buttered toast, crisp bacon, and the Hollandaise.
